Ada kalanya Tuhan memperhatikan untuk mengetahui apakah kita mau memberi-Nya ungkapan cinta berupa kehidupan yang berserah. Kadangkala, kita berusaha sedemikian rupa agar hidup kita tampak baik di hadapan Tuhan. Akhirnya, fokus kita beralih bukan lagi kepada Dia tapi kepada diri sendiri. Kita jadi disibukkan dengan pikiran "apakah saya sudah memenuhi kewajiban untuk hidup kudus dan baik dihadapan Tuhan?"
Kekristenan sebenarnya adalah tentang hubungan cinta. Kita melakukan sesuatu bukan karena itu adalah kewajiban yang membuat kita ketakutan kalau kita tidak memenuhi, tapi karena itu merupakan respon cinta kita kepada-Nya.
Cinta itu juga yang membebaskan kita untuk melakukan berbagai hal dengan penuh kebebasan dan sukacita. Keintiman hubungan cinta kita dengan-Nya akan membuat semua keputusan kita sehari-hari menjadi kehendak-Nya. Roh Kudus yang telah masuk ke dalam diri kita saat kita lahir baru akan memperingatkan Roh kita, ketika kita berbuat sesuatu yang menyimpang dari jalan-Nya.
Dengan kata lain, kasih-Nya membebaskan Anda untuk memilih, misalnya apakah akan berbisnis dengan si A atau si B, atau apakah akan memilih membeli produk X atau produk Y, bahkan hal-hal besar lainnya. Selama Anda punya kepekaan terhadap Tuhan, hikmat-Nya akan memampukan Anda untuk memilih yang terbaik.
